Spring Season

During the spring winter period in March-April, there’s still plenty of snow in Lapland. You can continue to enjoy winter activities while also taking pleasure in the increasing daylight and spring sunshine. By May, the season starts to transition towards summer and the snow begins to melt.

Cross-country Skiing, downhill skiing and snowboarding

In spring, Ylläs’ 62 slopes offer excellent conditions for skiing and snowboarding. With runs up to three kilometers long and a total of 53 kilometers of slopes, unforgettable experiences await under the spring sun. The largest height difference is 464 meters.

From the peak of the Ylläs Ski Resort, which rises to 719 meters, you can admire the stunning spring landscapes of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. The spring sun illuminates the fell nature, offering a unique combination of active outdoor activities and the tranquility of nature. The ski resort is located directly next to the national park, allowing for diverse skiing trips in the spring nature.

Snowmobiling

In spring, when the days are longer and sunnier, snowmobiling is an excellent way to explore the fells of Ylläs and the wilderness of Lapland. Along the way, you can stop to enjoy coffee or lunch, for example at the top of Ylläs, which offers stunning views of the surrounding nature.

Ylläs area has a broad and well-maintained snowmobile trail network. You can rent a snowmobile for independent driving or join a guided tour where a local guide will take you to the best spots in the area. Spring is a perfect time to try snowmobiling!

Husky Safaris and Reindeer Sleigh Rides

Husky safaris in Ylläs offer an exciting and unique experience in the captivating nature of Lapland. The super popular husky safaris fill up quickly in the winter, so it is recommended to make a reservation as soon as possible.

Fishing in Spring

May marks the beginning of the fishing season in Kolari. As the waters warm up, they draw in both fish and fishermen. In the area’s rivers and lakes, you can fish for species such as pike and perch in the spring. Numerous stretches of river and lakes are available for use – just remember to check the necessary fishing permits and local fishing regulations before casting your line. A fishing trip in May offers a fantastic opportunity to experience the awakening of Lapland’s nature in the spring.

Salmon fishing is allowed from June 1st to August 31st.

Horseback riding

In Ylläs, you can enjoy horseback riding year-round with various guided riding tours, treks, and camps on the back of a gentle, small-sized, and strong Icelandic horse. Ylläs Trek Horses provide expert guidance for groups, which is adjusted to the skill level of the participants.

Mountain Biking & eBiking

The magnificent fell landscapes and winter forest trails of Ylläs provide excellent conditions for mountain biking and e-biking. The electric assist on the e-bike makes pedaling lighter, allowing you to easily explore larger areas and even climb up to the top of the fell. This also enables longer excursions. Mountain biking and e-biking are wonderful ways to enjoy the enchanting nature of Ylläs, and the winter biking season lasts from December to May.

Wood-fired Sauna & Swimming in the River or Natural Spring

After enjoying the soft heat of our wood-fired sauna, you can refresh yourself with a swim in the Äkäsjoki river or in the cold water pool made from a natural spring, located next to the cabin. The combination of the sauna’s heat and swimming in cold water provides a balance that alleviates stress, promotes circulation, relaxes muscles, and strengthens the immune system.
